www.privateairny.com Private Air New York | Spring 2018 75 DESIGN By: Gina Samarotto A MODERN RIFF ON ART DECO Interior Designer Lisa Melone Cloughen Reinvents the Ideal Pied-à-Terre in Manhattan I n commissioning Lisa Melone Cloughen of the design firm Melone Cloughen Interiors to create their dream pied-à-terre, in a landmark, pre-war Park Avenue building in the heart of Manhattan, the clients' directives were straightforward. e clients' requested a minimalist sense of glamour and sophistication set against a neutral color palette. And a less is more masterpiece is what Melone Cloughen Interiors elegantly delivered. "Given the clients' preferences and sophistication, I wanted the space to have a grand feeling with more than a nod to the period of the building," says the designer. "All of the millwork is new, but it does hark back to an earlier era. I would consider the interiors to be a modern riff on the glamour of Art Deco in New York." The finishes, furnishings and glazed walls enhance the classical proportions of the rooms. Custom wool rugs with silk borders from The Rug Company. The deco-inspired white gold leaf chandelier from Paul Ferrante. The doors to living room are flanked by a John Salidino (left0 arm chair in Bridal Silk from Holly Hunt and custom trim from Samuel and Sons. The chair on the right is from Niermann Weeks in linen Strie from Osborne and Little with Vervain.
