No other commercial aircraft has this ability." e TriFan 600 uses three ducted fans for liftoff, and then rotates two wing fans forward to enable high-speed flight and is designed to fly as fast and as high as current business jets, but able to land and take off from any paved, helipad- sized space, cutting out the need to travel to airports. e technology XTI is incorporating is already available for drones that take off and land vertically to deliver packages, take pictures and videos, and deliver medicines. "ese aircraft won't replace large commercial airliners, but if you look around at the signs, it's clear that smaller commercial VTOL aircraft will become commonplace and permeate society in the near future," says Brody. And according to Brody, contrary to drones and driverless cars, no change in regulations or the existing FAA certification basis will be needed for the TriFan 600 because it is already using proven technology in a revolutionary configuration. Investing in technology startups can be both risky and lucrative, and XTI doesn't seem to be the exception. Conservative projections indicate a strong return for the early stage investors, and the company estimates that XTI will be a $1.4 billion company by the fifth year of commercial production of the TriFan 600. Says Brody, "We've substantially de-risked this project through three years of engineering, extensive market studies, millions of dollars already invested, and by putting together a highly experienced executive team of people who have brought many aircraft to the commercial market over the past three decades."
