www.privateairny.com Private Air New York | Fall 2016 74 INNOVATIVE DESIGNERS REINVENTING FASHION C asually lounging in Bemelmans Bar in New York's luxurious Carlyle Hotel, surrounded by the fanciful murals of Central Park by Ludwig Bemelmans, (author of the Madeline picture books), waiting for Woody Allen to appear with his New Orleans Jazz Band, you overhear the same refrain, over and over… "I'll have what he's having, I'll have what she's having." When the waiter arrives at your table, do you follow suit? You do not. "Make mine something different," you pronounce. And so, you are in the club. at segment of the population that does not follow the herd like dazed sheep. e tiny slice of the population that says, "I want something so new, so different, that it forces me to think in an unfamiliar way; a fresh direction. A vision I've never considered before." Some of the innovative new fashion designers to watch rely on the most modern of technologies to craft their amazing ensembles. Others focus on our preconceived notions of what nostalgic and contemporary fashion means to us, and challenges our expectations. Why not indulge in these delightful flights of fancy and treat yourself to a conceptual transformation, looking at style from a unique perspective. In a land where different and unfamiliar takes on, not an intimidating or frightening implication, but a positive, exhilarating connotation. Let's go there and never look back.
