drew upon his lofty talents and love
of opulence when creating the six-
story, neo-Georgian brick building.
Featuring a lobby, grill room and billiard
room on the first floor, a banquet hall on
the second and with accommodations
for members housed on the upper
levels; White's building was a luxurious
playground for the well-heeled theater
set. In 1915, the was renovated to
include a new addition that was a
virtual mirror image of the original
and in 1974, the building basked
in the glory that came from being
designated a Landmark by the New
York City Landmarks and Preservation
Commission.
Today, thanks to the vision of Master
Architect and Designer ierry
Despont, the circa-1905 building
has been meticulously restored and
modernized as e Chatwal. Featuring
seventy-six rooms and suites designed
to reflect the very essence of traditional
glamour and contemporary luxury, an
Elizabeth Arden 'Red Door' Spa and
the celebrated, Geoffrey Zakarian-
created Lambs Club restaurant; the
Chatwal is a true star in New York's
theater district. Distinctly alluring as
a whole, the quintessential jewel in the
Chatwal's crown is undoubtedly the
Barrymore Suite. Encompassing the
entire tenth floor of the Chatwal; the
suite includes four spacious guestrooms,
four full baths, dual sitting rooms,
kitchenettes and entertaining areas
that sprawl across the suite's 4,500sf
of interior living space and 1,000sf of
private terrace.
