olls-Royce - a name
synonymous with luxury -
there exists an ever-present,
seemingly unattainable
challenge to conceptualize
and produce motorcars that not only meet
the carmaker's own, exacting standards
but also exceed the expectations held by
Rolls-Royce aficionados. Despite such
lofty ambition, Rolls-Royce manages
to do just that as recently proven by the
unveiling of VISION NEXT 100, the
company's first, true concept car. When
the VISION NEXT 100, codenamed
103EX, made its public debut in London
this past June, Rolls-Royce answered the
question they had posed to themselves
during the development process; that is,
how can luxury be recast for the next 100
years. Alas, within that question existed
two others. Namely, what will a Rolls-
Royce owner expect of his or her Rolls-
Royce in the coming decades and how
will Rolls-Royce today envision how those
expectations will be met tomorrow. e
questions inspired a team led by Director of
Design Giles Taylor to dream of what the
future would hold for Rolls-Royce and the
future – it would seem – held the 103EX.
"With the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT
100 we were mindful not to dwell on the
past" explains Taylor. "We wanted to be
as innovative as possible and at the same
time transcend the design history of the
marque".
Putting aside any obvious notoriety derived
simply by bearing the Rolls-Royce crest;
the hallmark of the 103EX will rest in
its autonomy as well as in the motorcar's
intelligence and its ability to be completely
personalized.
