F ew things herald the onset of spring more beautifully than Philip Johnson's Glass House in the stately enclave of New Canaan, Connecticut. Each May, as if shrugging off the remnants from a long winter's nap, the Glass House and its grounds are opened to the public. is year, in honor of the 110th anniversary of Johnson's birth, the Glass House will present Yayoi Kusama: Narcissus Garden including a new iteration comprised of 1,400 mirrored globes, each approximately 11 inches in diameter. Narcissus Garden will take center stage within the verdant 49-acre landscape making the Glass House an even more idyllic place to wile away a perfect, May day. Narcissus Garden will be on exhibit from May 1st through November, 2016. Also opening on May 1st (running through August 15th) is Robert Rauschenberg - Spreads and Related Works; a group of paintings and works organized by David White, Senior Curator of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. e pieces that comprise Spreads and Related Works were meticulously chosen to compliment the painting Recital (Spread), 1980. Purchased by Philip Johnson, Recital is part of the the Glass House' permanent art exhibit. On May 13th and 14th, the Glass House will welcome Gerard + Kelly: Modern Living. A new project, Modern Living brings into dialogue two homes lived in by the architects who built them - the landmark Schindler House in West Hollywood, California, and Philip Johnson's Glass House – in a project that explores the themes of queer intimacy and domestic space within legacies of modernist architecture. Guests to the Glass House on May 22nd will be treated to choreographer Ivy Baldwin's latest work, Keen (Part One). Commissioned by the Glass House, Keen brings a powerful yet often hidden emotion to life within the Glass House and its dramatic grounds. Embodying the emotional and physical elements of loss, memory and holding love, Keen filters the experiences through the lens of a serene Modernism and chaotic wilderness.
