www.privateairny.com Private Air New York | Spring 2015 52 DRIVE nveiled and enveloped in the essence of mother-of-pearl inlay and shimmering beyond shimmer, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Serenity emerges as the most expensive one-off vehicle ever introduced to the world. e vehicle is simply beyond what may be imagined and no more superlative adjectives can be used to express its beauty. is is just the beginning of the jaw- dropping, bewitching dazzle of the most amazing interior. An interior that would perhaps even pale in comparison to what Japanese or Chinese Emperors during the Han Dynasty thought was opulence. ey travelled in light bamboo or wooden seats supported on multi carriers' backs. ese wooden carriages of ancient times often appeared on painted scrolls that depicted cherry blossom landscapes and royal processionals. e more wealth and class one had then, the more elaborate became the pallets and litters, as these shoulder carriages were also called. Decorated, painted, and lacquered in rich shades, then gilded over with silver and gold, and enclosed in the finest of silk curtains, the emperors, their wives and families sat on silken cushions, were shielded from onlookers, and carried by human power. Not so the Rolls-Royce Phantom Serenity, that took its cue from ancient luxury - and like a chrysalis - emerged into a 21st Century vehicle. Sir Henry Royce's maxim, "When it does not exist, design it," inspired the latest generation of Rolls-Royce's Bespoke designers to ask what wholly new approach to luxury would delight the most demanding and exacting people in the world – Rolls-Royce customers. eir answer came from Rolls-Royce's deep understanding of the most precious, beautiful and natural materials.
