www.privateairny.com Private Air New York | Summer 2014 65 TIPPLE e initial taste follows the satisfying essence of ripe fruit with layers of caramel and toffee. e finish lingers, and offers a creamy and buttery finale to a wonderfully complex but balanced whisky. Such a fine spirit is deserving of an extraordinary vessel and the people at the Glenmorangie Company did not fall short of their obligation. Contained in a Baccarat crystal flacon created by French designer Laurence Brabant both the whisky and bottle provide an aesthetic harmony complementary to each other. Together they are presented in an oak case designed by famed Dutch artisan Woulter Scheublin. Simultaneously the whisky, crystal bottle and wooden case fully encompass the value of heritage, craftsmanship and passion. To further amplify the launch of this remarkable whisky, Glenmorangie collaborated with the globally renowned artist Idris Khan and commissioned him to produce a work of art that would define this latest expression. Drawing inspiration from the innovative and diligent methods that define Glenmorangie, he produced an image called "Disappearing Casks" composed of multiple layers of photographic illustrations. ere are many points of relevance between both entities and process that plays a major role in the creation of both the whisky and the art. "Glenmorangie greatly admire the extraordinary approach and unseen lengths he goes to with his creations, thus making his work truly "Unnecessarily Well Made". It should also be noticed, (although perhaps by coincidence) that Mr. Khan was actually born in 1978, the year that the whisky was distilled. Only 700 1-liter bottles of this fantastic 34-year- old treasure are available worldwide and each will be accompanied by a signed "Disappearing Casks" limited edition print. At a price of $5,800 this is a special indulgence to be enjoyed, savored and shared in those moments of life, which are worth celebrating. e highlight of the night included a special toast with Glenmorangie Pride 1978 from Dr. Bill Lumsden with drams of this precious 34 year-old liquid passed for guests to savor. Bottled in 2012 following 15 years of extra-maturation in casks which had contained a legendary French Bordeaux Premier Grand Cru Classéwine, Pride 1978 is the longest extra- maturation of any Glenmorangie single malt to date.
