I
f it were up to me... I'd
live forever. But I'll settle
for something closer to
reaching age 150.
Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte,
a highly respected professor at
the Salk Institute for Biological
Studies in San Diego, believes that
there's a person alive today who
will live to be 130 years old. And
a recent Scientific American article
cites a researcher who believes
a human's maximum lifespan is
between 120 and 150 years.
It's all thanks to converging
technologies.
You might think I sound crazy...
But the global population's life
expectancy has been on the rise
for centuries, as advancements in
medicine and technology have
helped humans live longer.
Life expectancy has been rising
steadily in the United States as
well. It reached a peak of 78.8
years in 2019, before falling
to 77.3 in 2020 because of the
pandemic – setting the country
back to around 2003 levels. But
this brief decline will likely be
nothing more than a small blip
on the chart.
