In his role as historian and Director of Public Relations for the Palmer House - a gilded, elegantly crafted grande dame of grace - as part of the hotel's "History is Hott" program, Price leads guests through a history as riveting and romantic as any novel. At the Palmer House, guests are ushered into a world where modern convenience and turn of the century opulence seem to meld into one, singular experience. Built in 1871 by a besotted Potter Palmer as a gift for his bride Bertha, the original Palmer House made its debut a mere ten days before being reduced to ashes by the great 'Chicago Fire' . Unwilling to see her wedding gift go up in smoke, the newly minted Bertha Palmer insisted her husband make good on his betrothal vows and rebuild the hotel. And rebuild he did - the result being the brilliantly gilded, magically glittering temple of privilege we know today. Catering to visitors who appreciate an artfully blended combination of old-world luxury and modern convenience, the Palmer House is a Windy City institution just steps away from the very best Chicago has to offer. Coastal Hideaways e Elegant Charm of Narragansett and Nantucket In the summer there's swimming, fishing, kayaking, and of course, surfing - but the town of Narragansett is a covetable beach playground throughout all four seasons. From their serene and sandy perch guests to e Break, the area's first boutique hotel, can cozy up to the fire, lose themselves in a good book, explore the sandy dunes or simply choose to relax in utter tranquility. Designed by Jocelyn Chiappone of Digs Design Company and Frank Karpowicz of Frank Karpowicz Architects, the hotel offers just sixteen rooms, each an eclectic mix of vintage design punctuated with playful, elegant touches and accented with Midcentury flare. At the end of the day, e Break's rooftop lounge is the place to be to sip a well-mixed martini while drinking in breathtaking views of the ocean and Point Judith lighthouse. For those preferring to head to the Cape, Nantucket is an idyllic New England escape, just 30 miles off the coast of Massachusetts and featuring FBO services located at Nantucket Memorial Airport. A perennial summer favorite, Nantucket's charms abound through fall and winter as well. Noted for being America's whaling capital in the 19th century, Nantucket is once again in the spotlight with the debut of the movie In the Heart of the Sea, in December 2015. Guests to Nantucket can wander the cobbled streets, explore the e Whaling Museum, take in the views from the decks of e Endeavor, celebrate the holidays during the islands annual "Christmas Stroll" or sample a flight of beer at the Cisco Brewery before lingering over dinners at Topper's or the Brant Point Grill.
