Given to finishing each other's sentences when speaking on their shared love of design or ebulliently reminiscing about their recent projects, the friendship shared by this mother/daughter team is apparent - as is their passion for all things aesthetic. Despite such convivial camaraderie though, the animated duo are fiercely talented businesswoman and the driving force behind DiSalvo Interiors, one of New York's most preeminent interior design firms. Founded in 1996, DiSalvo Interiors has spent nearly twenty years creating a name for itself - a name that is virtually synonymous with stunning spaces. rough their creative process, the DiSalvos artfully delve into the personal stye of their residential and commercial clients; understanding the nuances of the structures and the people inhabiting them before elevating those defined aesthetics to create breathtaking spaces. What results are artful projects that reflect the personality of the the client while paying homage to personal style. Make no mistake - these designing women are a creative force to be reckoned with. Despite their tightly woven, unified persona - the Di Salvo women work flawlessly together, but each of the designers has their own unique and distinctive approach when it comes to design - eschewing any sign of familial tension. "Mom does what she does," says AnneMarie, who learned her craft in the hallowed halls of New York's Fashion Institute of Technology and studied Fine Art at New York University, "and I do what I do. We respect each other's work and talent… working side by side all of these years has really been a joy." While both their individual roles within the firm and their personal styles may be different, a commonality shared by AnnMarie and Rosemarie is their ability to draw design inspiration from the world around them. "I find myself inspired by the outdoors," muses AnnMarie. "e colors of nature are what most strongly drive my design direction. I love to use those natural colors and tones and I love to incorporate organic elements like stone into my work." Her business partner - and mother - Rosemarie DiSalvo is a self-professed "Museum Junkie" whose design style reflects that personal passion. "Art, architecture and period design gives me so much inspiration," Rosemarie says. "ese are the design elements that show us not just where we've been - but where we're going. rough the history of design you can see that we really don't change all that much. e classics remain classics." Both mother and daughter are also quick to note their love of travel as an endless source of inspiration. Ask them about their favorite destinations and Rosemarie will wax poetic on the charms that Italy has to offer while AnnMarie is admittedly besotted with the Hawaiian Islands paradisal lure. Yet despite such myriad sources of inspiration, DiSalvo clients all have one thing in common - that is, homes and projects designed to honor both form and function. Unlike other firms who have a signature style that's prevalent throughout many projects, the DiSalvos approach each design challenge that comes their way with a fresh eye. "We would never want our projects to become predictable," says Rosemarie. "It's important to us that each space has its own personality and its own aesthetic. What is consistent is the overall quality of the design, not the style itself. We love the challenges that every new project brings."
