Known for his glamorously seductive interiors, the British born Bullard has made his work even more covetable by teaming with legendary French glassmaker Daum to create a collection that is relentlessly, utterly irresistible. Illustrative of his work with Daum is Bullard's Eden Chandelier, a dramatic piece exemplifying the heady allure of the designers work. In a blissful joining of aesthetics and form, the fixture - which can best be described as a stunning work of functional sculpture - is as deliciously enticing as the forbidden garden it was named for. During his recent trip to New York, Bullard explained the creative inspiration behind the Eden Chandelier saying, "…I decided that my chandelier should be sexy, powerful, and really make a show stopping statement. e idea of the Garden of Eden, the original temptation, played strongly in the design. e leaves which are almost a fig leaf have been created with a magical pale green aura that when lit is subtle and beautiful juxtaposed against the wildly exotic, luscious red apple that sits temptingly in the middle of the piece. e gilded bronze snake that weaves its way down the stem has been carved to perfection and elevates the sexiness and power of the chandelier… Daum has executed my idea so beautifully that the chandelier not only tells a story, but is also a wonderful work of art-wildly decorative and deeply sexy, it radiates the most intoxicating glow from the pale- hued crystal leaves and glorious ruby red apple." e temptation created by the designer doesn't stop at the Eden Chandelier. To compliment the piece Daum also offers the symbolic apple motif in a large candleholder as well as a paperweight, creating a veritable harvest of elegant form and rich color. is spring, Bullard has added a new temptation – a collection of fine porcelain offered by Haviland. Of the this new collection, Bullard says, "e Hollywood collection of Porcelain for Haviland is a dream come true. Patterns are a mix of all the design inspirations I love. A touch of classic 60's style with a nod to the legendary decorator David Hicks mixed with a tribal element and Art Deco precision makes this pattern at once fresh and modern, while retaining an elegance that is timeless. I love that this collection, is extremely versatile, with pieces that can be used for everyday or make a statement for special occasions. e muted grey on crisp white with both matte and polished platinum, add to the drama of my design whilst retaining a style that can easily work in with everyday white pieces or dramatic black contrasting pieces." As to what we can expect in the future, Bullard tells us he is working on more pieces scheduled for launch later in the year, as well as a collection of vases and candleholders to accompany the Daum series. To that, we say "sweet." Martyn Lawrence Bullard Talks to Private Air About The Inspiration Behind His Delicious Eden Chandelier And His Plans For Designs That Make Life A Bit Sweeter.
